Thursday Vintage Spotlight

This Thursday I'm featuring Exquisite Bones.
I especially love the modern pin-up photography and the cars... fun and quirky!

Lets talk to Shayla of Exquisite Bones:

"I am a self diagnosed vintage addict, enjoying every day of my historic lunacy.
I am based out of Vancouver, WA, a suburban town outside of Portland, OR.
I happily obsess over vintage clothing and old houses. I am quite particular in my eras, only wearing and selling items from the 1930s-1950s. I really got into selling to support my habit of buying everything I find from those eras.
I mostly sold what did not fit me, but as time moved on and I was doing so well, I decided to spend more time focusing on my Etsy shop. I have been actively going at it now for just over 6 months now."

The Magic of Olga

Vintage Olga Nightgowns are famous for their fabulous stretchlace and use of spandex. These gowns literally flatter every figure. If you are small breasted they seem to magically add more curves, if you are large breasted they mold, shape and support. The slightly dropped point at the waistline and artful gathering on the waistline hides any tummy bulge and smooths over love handles, yet the full sweep of the skirt is just for swirling!!

This rare purple Olga gown is currently on Ebay Auction from Empress Jade.

Surf and Sand

Yesterday I had the most wonderful day at Willows Beach in Victoria. A BBQ with family, my Mom's potato salad (which is the only kind I will eat), bachi ball with the kids... a perfect day. It was one of those rare sunny and windless days, so the bathing beauties were out in force. Got me thinking about swimsuits...

Sneek Peak - BIBA

Original Biba Store, Kensington, London UK

Oh My Gawd! I adore this dress! Just a little sneek peak at an authentic vintage Biba dress I got recently. Barbara Hulanicki started Biba in 1964 and it soon became the must go place for London's young trendsetters. This dress has everything you would expect from a true original Biba; huge balloon sleeves, sumptuous fabric, romantic styling, but in such a bright raspberry red, which is atypical for Biba which was known for it's "Auntie Colors". It's off to the drycleaners for this beauty and it will soon be listed for sale in our Market Publique store.

Thursday Spotlight

Today I'm featuring the distinctive stylings of Black Raven Vintage... badass vintage fashion!

Raven is a musician residing in Portland, OR, who has possessed a strong love for vintage ever since she picked up her first corseted Gunne Sax prairie dress around the age of 14. Running an online vintage shop has turned out to be the perfect fit for her lifestyle, interests and skills: she loves playing dress-up, really enjoys being able to use her photography skills, is a bit of a control freak, likes working alone, keeps crazy hours, is a total computer nerd, and is happy to have a job that can work around her bands' schedules. Her tastes gravitate towards classic, glamorous, eccentric and romantic styles rather than towards trends, so naturally the selection in her store tends to reflects that. She strives to make shopping at her store to be more of an experience rather than just a business transaction; it's so much more fulfilling and fun for her this way, and ultimately (hopefully!) for her customers as well. She's just begun a new blog with this in mind, wherein she will be showing off outfits she actually wears, playing with self-portraiture, experimenting with photo editorials and environments, highlighting items that are for sale in the store, trying out new models, and perhaps authoring brief imaginative narratives to go along with the imagery. Anything goes, really, as long as it includes something vintage! -- raven

Vintage Spotlight

Today I'm featuring one of my favorite Vintage Sellers. Fabulous photography and a great selection of vintage fashion.

Blythe Hopes Vintage is based in Upstate New York, and run by work at home mum Siobhan. It's named for the most beautiful thing she could thing of - her daughter, and it's fitting as the the thing that first attracted Siobhan to vintage fashion was the passing down through generations. Fashion is a very female pastime - an anchor that draws women from all walks of life together. Siobhan's grandmother was a seamstress - and though they had little money, was always the first to try new looks. That love continued to her daughter, who became a high fashion hairdresser in London in the 60s. Siobhan grew up with stories from the catwalk, and pictures of the past. She gravitated towards the stage, but after her daughter arrived, she needed a way to be able to stay home and still make a little bit - and staring at her wardrobe full of vintage, Blythe Hopes Vintage was born.Since then she has found herself waiting at estate sales at 3am, roughing up little old ladies at rummage sales, and feeling really daft taking pictures of herself - all to ship vintage goodness around the globe from her etsy shop - Blythe Hopes Vintage
